New Beginnings

This blog has been around since September of 2015, but it has always been in a very weird format. I’ve maintained essentially two different sites, with blog posts going up on Tumblr, while the other “fixed” elements were published back at “the mother ship” of catfishwizard.com

The only reason for this structure was that I got the domain through GoDaddy, and they’re not really set up to do a blog. So I used Tumblr to blog, and the GoDaddy website builder for everything else.

It was okay, but not great.

Tumblr isn’t really designed for the kind of blogging I’m doing. Plus no one really uses it, and I’m uncertain about its future now that Yahoo sold to Verizon.

Also the whole two websites thing was pretty cumbersome.

It’s been time to make a change for a while, but I’m just now getting around to it.

Going forward I will not be adding any content to the catfishwizard tumblr page. All content including new blog posts will be featured here at the mother ship itself.

I’ll also be a lot more active on the twitter. Rather than doing a write up for every single trade, I’ll be documenting that activity there. If it warrants a full write up (like an investment thesis or something), then I’ll do a blog post about it.

I’ve imported all the Tumblr blog posts. The tool seems to have worked pretty well, but who knows. Original tumblr content can be found here for as long as Verizon decides to keep it there.

So here’s to new beginnings! Welcome to the new CatfishWizard.com.

Glad you’re here.

    1. Howdy IH,

Thanks for the compliment on the new format.

I changed the links in the masthead of the old Tumblr so they at least come back to the new site. One of the bigger challenges I’m facing is that over the last two years I would insert links to my other posts and back to the catfishwizard.com home page. Now that the pages at the mother ship have slightly different labels a lot of those links are broken. At least the links to the tumblr posts still take you to the content they’re supposed to. I think technically I’d have to set up a redirect for all 188 posts?

It’s a mess. I shouldn’t have stuck with the convoluted format as long as I did.

I’m not really very that tech-savvy, so it is a small miracle that I figured out how to import all the old Tumblr blog posts to the WordPress platform.

  1. I’m fairly new to your blog catfishwizard, but I like what I see so far. I tried having two blogs and quickly found out that it didn’t work for me because of what you said: it as too time consuming. There something to be said about the power of focus, and I think that this blog of yours will only be better because of it.

    1. Hi DP,

Glad you’re here and thanks for the kind words about the new format.

I think you’re right that focus and consistency will help this thing get a little better traction.

Also I know that people like to interact through comments like this. While I think that was technically possible on Tumblr, the mechanism was clunky and not intuitive so no one ever did it.
